Mildred Deleta Hiser, daughter of Quincy Larue Hiser and Isabelle Smith, was born on February 4, 1906 in Bettsville, Ohio. On March 4, 1930 she married Lester C. Carstenson. She married second, on June 5, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, Henry A. H. Wendt born February 6, 1908 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Mildred, known as Midge, was a registered nurse who lived in Midland, Michigan. Henry Wendt was employed by Dow Chemical Company. In 1954 Mildred’s mother, Isabelle Smith Hiser-Nance, moved to Midland and lived with her daughter until her death in 1962. After her retirement, Mildred continued to live in Midland for a number of years. During the 1960’s and early 1970’s Midge lived in Tiffin, Ohio. She volunteered at the mental hospital, was employed as Mrs. Santa Claus every Christmas, was a avid bowler, and drove herself on may trips. I can remember “Aunt Midge” as a warm, fun-loving, and caring individual. She loved babies and was always there with outstretched arms whenever a youngster visited.
Mildred died in November, 1995 in Michigan. I had the good fortune to speak with her several months before her death and she shared many warm family memories with me at that time.
