Christian Kroll was born on October 12, 1852 in West Prussia, Germany. The son of Christian Gustav Kroll and Christina Schantz married Anna M. Unknown. The Kroll family immigrated to the United States about 1881 and settled in Lorain, Ohio. Christian was employed for twenty-five years as a watchman in the American Shipbuilding yards. He was a member of the Lorain Tent No. 1 K.O.T.M. for 43 years and St. John’s Evangelical Church.
When the infamous tornado struck Lorain, Ohio on July 3, 1924 the path of destruction went through the Kroll home. Anna M. Kroll, Christian’s wife, and William E. Kroll, a ten year old grandson, were killed. Christian; daughter, Margaret C. Kroll; and grandson, Elmer Kroll; were seriously injured. Margaret was taken to an area hospital, where she recovered from her injuries. Christian Kroll died on January 10, 1927 in Lorain, Ohio. Both Christian and Anna M. Kroll are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.
Known children of Christian and Anna M. Kroll:
Children probably belonging to Christian and Anna M. Kroll who are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio
I found, near the office in Elmwood Cemetery, an old obelisk shaped tombstone with a child’s name on each of the four sides. A sad story of a fatal illness which took the young lives of these four Kroll children in a two week period.
